Transform Agency Communications While Saving Money

The federal belt-tightening promised for 2012 will start shortly, meaning government agencies are already scrambling to find ways to squeeze the most from existing IT investments while meeting mandates to move to cloud and mobile computing. Decreased funding for federal IT will force federal employees, contractors and partners to find more efficient ways to communicate across public and private infrastructure that may vary widely in capability, and may remain so indefinitely.

Fortunately, Unified Communications (UC) can help federal agencies save time and money by leveraging presence-based technologies that inform integrated workplace communications tools, like chat and video conferencing. These technologies support the way we naturally communicate and adapt to the capabilities of the various networks they encounter, enabling users to be productive anywhere they go. Many Microsoft solutions already implemented throughout the federal government innately support UC, offering added capability at no extra expense.

I had the opportunity to explore these topics in more detail last month in a guest column for Government Technology magazine – click on the link to learn more.
